Book Tag: TBR

TBR

So… I’ve been away awhile. I’ve been pretty busy with work and podcasting for a few weeks, but I wanted to get a post up before too long to try to keep some semblance of consistency. So, enter a book tag!

I happened to be tagged in this TBR (To Be Read) tag, about all the books we want to read, by Leah over at Leah’s Books and Cooks. Definitely check out what she’s doing over there. Thanks, Leah! And I’m sorry it took me so long to post this…

This was a fun one, and not too long!

1. How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

Imma be real honest here, my TBR is more a state of mind, an abstract idea of books I want to read, than an actual concrete list. I keep track of what I want to read in a few different ways: Goodreads, Amazon and IndieBound wishlists, library holds, and I actually do have a physical place, the bottom shelf of one of my bookcases, where I keep books that I own but haven’t read yet.

2. Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?

I think it’s a pretty even mix. ARCs are almost always ebooks. I do library holds quite a bit, and I’ll usually request both the physical book and the ebook and read whichever is available first. When I buy a book I tend to buy either ebook or paperback, whichever costs less. And I actually have a few audiobooks on my TBR.

3. How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

I try really hard to read ARCs that are being released soon first, but other than that, it’s really up to the feeling of the moment. If I finish something I really loved (and it doesn’t have a sequel) I might bypass my entire TBR to find something that will give me a similar vibe or feeling, to sort of stay in that experience.

4. A book that’s been on your TBR the longest.

According to Goodreads, it’s Gone Girl, added to my “Want to Read” shelf on July 12, 2015. Although I just recently read Jurassic Park, a book that had been on my (abstract, nebulous) TBR for like 20 years, so…

5. A book that you recently added to your TBR.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. I also just received my preordered copy of Sarah J. Maas’ latest, House of Earth and Blood, and have yet to crack it open.

6. A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover.

I added Isabel Ibanez’s Woven in Moonlight on Goodreads because of the gorgeous cover art, but I kept it on there for the intriguing-sounding story.

7. A book on your TBR that you NEVER plan on actually reading.

If I don’t plan to read it then it’s not on my TBR, is it?

8. An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for.

Empire of Gold by S. A. Chakraborty and These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. I follow both authors on Twitter and they are delightful. But not violent. That I know of.

9. A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you.

Ahh, I don’t know… maybe We Hunt the Flame or Wicked Saints? It seems like a lot of people have read those. Oh, no, I know: The Gilded Wolves!

10. A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you.

I’ve been recommended P. C. Cast’s House of Night series a few times. I’ll get around to it eventually.

11. A book on your TBR that you’re just dying to read.

House of Earth and Blood. I feel like I need to be in just the right frame of mind to start this because I know, if it’s like Maas’ other books, I’m going to devour it, and then have a book hangover. I’m… almost scared to start it? Is that weird?

12. The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf.

188, but I add to this number almost daily.

    1. Right?? I didn’t read ACOTAR until the series was complete (though I think she is writing more…?), and I read TOG when it was just 1 away from being finished. That year until Kingdom of Ash was soooo long. I don’t know how I’ll manage waiting in between books in this new series, lol
